> Connect NewsBreak with an Access Token for spend, postback events, suppression lists and click tracking.

NewsBreak has no lead forms, so leads from your NewsBreak ads arrive through your own EventsIQ forms,
marked by the NewsBreak click ID. Connecting NewsBreak lets EventsIQ read your spend, tell NewsBreak
which leads sold, and keep people who already bought out of your ads.

:::note{title="What you get"}
- **Cost tracking**: spend per campaign, every hour, so Reports show return on ad spend.
- **Conversions**: a postback or a routing lane reports the sale to a NewsBreak Postback event.
- **Suppression list**: sold leads are added to a custom audience your ad sets can exclude.
- **Click tracking**: the NewsBreak click ID (`newsbreak_cid`) is kept with each lead.
:::

## Step 1: Connect NewsBreak

NewsBreak does not use a sign in window. You connect it with an **Access Token** instead.

1. In NewsBreak Ad Manager, go to **Tools**, **Advertising API**, and click **Generate Token**. Copy
   it.
2. In EventsIQ, go to **Connections**, click **Connect an account**, and pick **NewsBreak**.
3. Paste the token and click **Connect**. EventsIQ checks it with NewsBreak and lists your ad
   accounts. The token is stored encrypted, and only its last four characters are ever shown.
4. If you are not an org admin in NewsBreak, EventsIQ asks for your **organisation id**, shown in Ad
   Manager next to the organisation name.

Connecting needs the **Manage routing** permission, because NewsBreak brings in no leads. If an ad
account is added later, use **Refresh accounts** on the connection.

## Step 2: Track the click ID

On your [traffic source](https://www.eventsiq.io/docs/traffic-sources), pick **NewsBreak**. The parameters include
`newsbreak_cid=__CALLBACK_PARAM__`. Add them to the end of each ad's landing page URL in NewsBreak Ad
Manager. NewsBreak swaps `__CALLBACK_PARAM__` for a click ID (it starts with `nvss_`) on every click,
and a lead with that click ID is shown as a NewsBreak lead.

If your traffic goes through ClickFlare's NewsBreak template, which calls the parameter
`CALLBACK_PARAM`, that works too.

## Step 3: Read your spend

1. Go to **Integrations**, **Cost tracking**, and click **New integration**.
2. Pick **NewsBreak**, your NewsBreak traffic source, the connection, and the ad accounts.

Spend is read one day at a time for all the ad accounts you picked. Past spend can be imported up to
90 days back.

## Step 4: Report sales back to NewsBreak

NewsBreak has no stage field. Each stage you report is a **Postback event** you make in NewsBreak
first.

1. In NewsBreak Ad Manager, go to **Tools**, **Event Management**, click **Create/test event**, and
   choose **Postback**. Pick the event type (for example Complete payment) and turn on **Event
   value** if you want the sale price counted. Save it.
2. Then choose where EventsIQ reports it from:
    - **A postback**: in **Integrations**, **Conversion API**, pick **NewsBreak postback event**, the
      ad account, and an event for each postback event.
    - **A routing lane** or a [global event](https://www.eventsiq.io/docs/global-events): add a **NewsBreak postback** and
      pick an event for when a destination bought the lead. Leave the "not bought" event empty unless
      you made a separate event for it.

NewsBreak needs its **click ID** to match a sale, so a lead without one is skipped with a reason. The lead's email, phone, name and location go with it as hashes, along with the visitor's IP and browser, to make the match stronger. NewsBreak
click IDs last **7 days**: a lead that sells later than that cannot be reported, and is skipped with
that reason too.

:::tip{title="Retrying from Lead logs"}
Every attempt for the same lead is sent with the same event ID and time, so a retry repeats exactly
what was sent the first time.
:::

## Step 5: Exclude people who already bought

1. On a routing, add a **NewsBreak suppression list** lane and pick the ad account.
2. Pick a custom audience made from an **email file**, or open **Create a new audience** and make one there.
3. In each ad set's targeting, add the audience as an **exclusion**.

NewsBreak audiences only take **email addresses** here. A lead with no email is skipped with a reason.
Sold leads wait in a queue and go to NewsBreak together every hour, and NewsBreak adds them in its
daily update, within 24 to 48 hours. The lane shows how many are waiting, and **Upload now** sends
them straight away.

## If something stops

If NewsBreak stops accepting the token, the connection shows **Needs you**, the owner gets an email,
and spend, conversions and audience updates pause. Make a new token in NewsBreak Ad Manager and
paste it with **Reconnect** on the connection, then import the missed spend from the cost tracking
integration.
